The course itself only takes three days to complete, and to pass, a person will need to complete and pass three multiple choice exams.

Once you have passed the course, you can apply for the licence, which costs around £190. Once the application is sent away, it may take up to 6 weeks, but a result usually comes back within 25 working days. The application will need to include a verified ID such as a passport or driving licence. When processing your application, the SIA will complete a criminal record check and may ask for additional evidence if you have lived abroad. Once approved, the licence is valid for three years, after which you can reapply.
