Northampton is the origin of the British shoemaking industry, dating back to the middle of the 19th Century, when the industry began to rapidly grow. There were plenty of raw materials nearby, including oak and leather.

Overall, the region has a successful history which goes back almost 900 years. Northampton’s town is a perfect combination of bustling urban life and peaceful countryside, thus making it a popular choice for residents. An estimated 757,063 people live within the Northampton’s area, giving it an incredibly dense population. In 2018, The Association of Town and City Management (ATCM), accredited Northampton a purple flag for providing a safe nightlife to citizens because of the local council’s efforts to secure the community and ensure it is well-policed.

Although, the positive reputation that the region once had has sadly began to decrease. Northampton’s crime rate has since been on a steady surge, with levels increasing by almost 6%. In addition, the town has been labeled as the fifth-worst place for vehicle crime.

Astoundingly, crime within the town is above the national average. Research indicates that violent felonies in Northampton have increased by a staggering 17.1%. Are The Northampton Police Successful in Tackling the Violations?

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) performed a thorough inspection on the Northamptonshire Police. They concluded that the extent to which the force is effective at reducing crime and keeping people safe both required improvement. Surprisingly, the extent to which the force operates efficiently and sustainably was marked as inadequate.

In response to the examination, the Northamptonshire Police recently developed a policing plan that targets the safety of the people they serve. In their statement, they recognise the evolution of crime and the tactics that criminals rely on. Moreover, the force said that they are dedicated to providing the most efficient and effective services they possibly can with the resources available.
