This was 47% higher than Leicestershire’s own crime rate of 89 crimes. When compared to the whole of the UK, Leicester is ranked to be in the top 20 dangerous cities. It’s also ranked as the 448th most dangerous area when compared to all the cities, villages, and towns in the UK.

Despite the city’s high crime rate, many of the residents admit that they feel secure and that vulnerability does not appear to be a serious problem. Some locals state Leicester is a “safe and friendly city”.

Crimes Committed In Leicester

When it comes to crimes, many affect Leicester’s safety. Plumplot reports that the city’s most common crime is violent and sexual offences crimes. Violent crimes make up more than 37.4% of all crimes committed in the city, and over 22.1K violent crimes were reported last year.

The city’s second common crime is public order crimes. Plumplot reported that these types of crimes made up more than 11.1% of all crimes committed in Leicester. Leicester’s public order crime rate makes up 190% of the national crime rate, causing Leicester to be the 14th highest city for those crimes when compared to the other 99 England and Wales cities in these categories.
Crimerate reports that Leicester’s least common crime is theft of the person. In 2023, these types of crimes had decreased by 14% and were reported 476 times.

How Effective Are Leicestershire Police?

In the last few years, the HMICFRS appraised Leicestershire Police’s overall performance in deterring crime, the protection of people and its response to crime alerts. Altogether, the examination concluded that the force was good at preventing crime, protecting vulnerable people, and stopping anti-social behaviour.
