What Is The Crime Rate In Norfolk?

The overall crime rate in Norfolk is around 70 crimes per 1000 people. The region’s violent crime rate sits at around 40.9 crimes reported per year per 1000 people, making it higher than the national crime rate. As well as higher violent crime rates, Norfolk has an ‘other crime’ rate that is 50% higher than the national average and a public order crime rate that is also significantly larger. There is some good news, however, as possession of drugs and weapons crime levels, as well as shoplifting, burglary, and anti-social behaviour, are all below the national average.

Crime statistics from the last year show that it has 96 crimes per 1000 people, meaning that one in ten people in the area are likely to be a victim of crime – this is higher than the Norfolk and national average. Norwich has also been identified as one of the top 20 most dangerous cities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

According to Police.uk, there were a total of 4,123 crimes in the last 12 months in Norwich North, Norwich East, Norwich South and Norwich West. The most common types of crime in the area are listed as violence and sexual offences, anti-social behaviour, public order, criminal damage and arson and shoplifting.

Crime In Downham Market

Downham Market is ranked in the top 10 most dangerous towns in Norfolk and ranks 115th in the most dangerous areas out of all the 546 villages, towns, and cities in the region. Crime statistics from the last year show that it has 57 crimes per 1000 people, meaning that one in twenty people in the area are likely to be a victim of crime – this is lower than the Norfolk and national average.

According to Police.uk, there were a total of 858 crimes in the last 12 months in Downham Market. The most common types of crime in the area are listed as violence and sexual offences, anti-social behaviour, public order, criminal damage, and arson. As Downham Market is a smaller town, there is no further breakdown by area of the crime rates. It is, however, important to note that Downham Market is safer than the nearby towns of Costessey, Taverham, Bradwell, and Attleborough. It is, on the other hand, more dangerous than Cromer, Watton, Wymondham, and Fakenham.
